The Black Sox Scandal
The 1919 World Series turned into one of the biggest scandal in baseball history, changing American History. The Chicago White Sox, or as later called the Black Sox, threw the world series against their opponents the Cincinnati Reds. It was originally set up by gambler Arnold Rothstein and first baseman of the Chicago White Sox, Charles Arnold "Chick" Gandil. Other White Sox players involved included the great "Shoeless" Joe Jackson; pitchers Eddie Circotte and Claude "Lefty" Williams; infielders Buck Weaver, Fred McMullin and Charles "Swede" Risberg; and outfielder Oscar "Happy" Felsch. The players were acquitted of criminal charges but they were still, all eight, banned for life from baseball.
